Melanie grew up immersed in Tai Ji Men’s educational environment, which emphasizes conscience, love, and holistic development. She noted, “This year, Boston University received 77,000 applications and admitted only 3,500 students—an acceptance rate of just 5%, making the competition fiercer than ever. Being awarded a full-ride scholarship is beyond what I could have imagined.” Her achievement was the result of extraordinary commitment: she volunteered at medical service programs during school breaks, wrote over 50 application essays, and took on intellectually rigorous challenges such as physics debate tournaments and global research competitions.
Melanie highlighted the life values she developed through her Tai Ji Men practice, stating, “I learned to act with conscience—not just for myself, but for the greater good.” She has volunteered at free medical services and health education initiatives, promoted the Era of Conscience movement within her school, and represented the youth of her organization at international forums, advocating for love, peace, and ethical responsibility. These meaningful experiences not only fostered her personal growth but also greatly enhanced her university application.
Melanie also shared how diaphragmatic breathing techniques helped her stay emotionally balanced and mentally focused during high-pressure situations such as performances, competitions, and exams. “Breathing is more than a biological process—it is a powerful tool that reconnects us to our inner selves. Tai Ji Men has taught me not only to cultivate energy, but also to cultivate the heart.”
In closing, Melanie expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support of her family. “My greatest fortune has been growing up with my family by my side, practicing and cultivating together. In moments of frustration and confusion, they always understood me and helped me through.” She also performed several musical pieces with her parents, adding more warmth and joy to the entire event.
